City Hall
A neoclassic building, built in 1776. The first
floor is formed by a six arches porch depressed on pillars built in
ashlars. In 1983, when the facade was being fixed, some rests of old paintings appeared. Based on what appeared, Julio Caro
Baroja did the sketch for the reconstruction of those paintings and the
local painter Juantxo Larramendi was in charge of repainting it with
polychromes.

San Esteban's
Parochial Church
A gothic church from the 15th century.
There is not too much left of its primary construction due to
the different wars that between the 16th, 17th
and 18th centuries devastated the village because its
frontier location. In its interior, it keeps the best romantic
organ in Navarra (three keyboards and pedal). It is the work of
the brilliant master Aquilino Amézua y Jauregui (native from
Guipúzcoa), who wanted to place his great work in the frontier,
to show the foreigners and the native what he was capable of
(1.895). Surprisingly, the three keyboards from the organ are
expressive, reducing the volume at will of the executer. It’s
“human voice” is beautiful. |
It is said that Amézua studied and practiced to
achieve its tone with throats of goats and sheep, and even with
human corpses in England. It is also interesting the choir
chairs that accompany this organ, built in two floors.

Its
Streets
In its streets we can find very diverse architectonic
styles, although we will not see too many old buildings because
the town was set in fire and ransacked in numerous occasions by
the French.
In 1638 it was totally set on fire, and because of this the
oldest houses in the urban area are from 1639, several of them
with the dates. Two of these houses have written on their façade
the date of the fire. |

 |
We should not forget of mentioning the floral decorations we
will find in the entire town, in balconies, as well as in
facades, walls or stairs.
